[Drumroll] MS Office 2010 Launches!

Today, in its much publicized keynote, Microsoft finally brought out MS Office 2010 and its counterpart SharePoint 2010 out of beta. The company's business division head Stephen Elop kicked off the keynote.

According to Stephen, over 8 million users had downloaded Office 2010 over its beta phase which lasted 5 months since Nov 09. The new suite includes upgraded versions of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as web based versions of these products titled Office Web Apps.

On the eve of the much publicized launch of Microsoft's 2010 range of enteprise products, Google issued a blog post on the Google enterprise blog, appealing to business users to carefully consider before upgrading to Office 2010.

They evidently suggested – upgrade to Google Docs instead.

The Google Apps Spectrum Just Got Wider

One of the major frustrations for Google Apps users was the inability to access extended Google services with their Apps accounts – YouTube, Picasa, Blogger et al. Going by Google, 9 of the top 20 requests related to users' inability to log in to these services with their Google Apps' login.

Google just changed that.

The City Of Los Angles account  that Google clinched in October 2009 was seen as Google Apps' crown jewel. A proof that Google Apps had arrived, that it now had the capability, maturity and security to handle large and important accounts. The City Council selected Google Apps to replace its email system for all 34,000 city employees, and was much marketed by Google.

Is Google Apps Taking the Web Bit too Far?

About a month ago, Google proudly announced new functionality for Google Docs – new Document and Spreadsheet features, faster speed and the ability to collaborate in real time with large groups Google Wave style. But with this news, it tried to sneak in some possibly bad news for some users.
